Duncan Place Community Choir – Taster Sessions
January 21 @ 7:00 pm - 8:45 pm
£5Do you want to join our Choir?
Before we head into another of our community choir blocks, we're having three £5 pay-as-you-go choir sessions on Tue 21st, 28th Jan, and Tue 4th Feb. This is a great opportunity to come along, give it a go, and meet our friendly choir members! If you are interested in joining, please email Drew at events@duncanplace.org as soon as possible, as spaces are limited.
Following a week off on Tue 11th Feb, there will then be a seven-week choir block from Tue 18th Feb to Tue 1st April where £35 for that seven-week block is required to be paid before Tue 18th Feb.
What to expect
Duncan Place Community Choir (DPCC) started in October 2023. In early 2023 we reached out to community members to discover what they wanted from a community events programme. Top of the list was a community choir, and after an initial planning meeting with interested community members in July 2023, our choir first sang together a couple of months later.
We welcome all singers over the age of 18 whether you’re a complete beginner or seasoned singer. There are no auditions, and everything is learned by ear, you do not need to read music. We sing acapella enjoying a range of material from folk, pop, gospel, and traditional songs in other languages. Songs that celebrate community, nature, and humanity feature highly in the repertoire.
Choir leader Seraph Davidson is a member of the Natural Voice Network who believe that ‘singing is everybody's birthright.’ At DPCC we aim to be inclusive and accessible to all so if you have any particular needs, please speak to us so that we can work out how the choir can work for you.
Singing in a choir can be a wonderful boost to your health and wellbeing. It’s a proven way to reduce stress levels and it is an effective way to build community. If you are looking for a warm, welcoming choir then why not come along for a taster session to see how we do things.
Times and dates
We meet on Tuesday evenings (check block dates) and sing from 7pm - 8.45pm, with a short break around 8pm. Arrival is from 6.45pm.
The choir usually meets in blocks of between seven to ten weeks and ideally choir members should aim to have an attendance of 75% or more for the benefit of the choir. We rarely issue homework or learning tracks which is an aspect that our singers really enjoy. This reduces additional demand on your time outside of the Tuesday night sessions.
Fees
Choir blocks are to be paid in advance. Current choir session costs equate to £5 per session therefore for an eight-week block, £40 would be paid in advance.
Performances
To date, DPCC have performed in house for various events and at Leith Gala. We had a great time and the feedback was wonderful. It is likely that we will branch out and do more community gigs particularly around the Leith area and for causes that align with Duncan Place Community Hub.
