SUMMARY:Dungeons and Dragons
DESCRIPTION:D&D at Duncan Place.\n\n\nOur D&D group for S2-S6 aged folks (max age 17) returns next month. We run the group in partnership with Ancient Robot Games\, with two of their staff members (Morgan and Brian) leading and supporting the sessions. \nStarting on Friday\, 16th January\, the group will run weekly on Fridays\, 3 pm to 5 pm\, until Friday\, 27th March (except the 20th February – school spring break – when there will be no session). \nIt costs £2 per session\, paid by cash or card on arrival each week. \nWe first ran the group for eight weeks before the summer 2025 holidays and have a core group of around twelve young people\, with games running on two/three tables. We’re expecting that number to grow in the next block and can accommodate a maximum of 20 people. \nFor anyone joining the group\, we just need:\nTheir name\, plus an emergency contact name and email/telephone number.\nWe also check in to see if anyone has any food allergies/dietary requirements in case we’re ever able to offer snacks. \nWhat to expect:\nSplit into groups of around five\, players will create their own adventurer and be guided through a fantasy world\, fighting monsters and maybe saving the day! Each group will also include one Game Master who will control the monsters\, townspeople\, and cute (or not-so-cute) animals of the world. D&D is easier to do than to explain\, though\, and this will be a perfect place for both new and experienced players to come together and play D&D. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\nFridays 12th Sept – 21st Nov\n(except during October break)\n3 pm – 5 pm\n£2\, please book\nAges S2-S6 \nContact events@duncanplace.org if you have any questions.

DESCRIPTION:Music Circles provide us with the perfect way to have fun\, express ourselves\, beat stress and connect with our community. In our Community Music Circle\, we will create ‘in the moment’ music with drums\, percussion\, voices and other easy to play melodic instruments. Join in whatever way you can and are comfortable with. Drums and percussion provided (or bring your own). \nMusic Circle information\nThere’s no need to book. Just come along. \nStart time is 7:30pm (running until 8:45pm). Morag is also trained to deliver sessions in Expressive Rhythm stories and Rythym2Recovery. \nMorag has over 20 years’ experience providing opportunities for individuals and communities to explore the moving power of music. She has worked with people from all walks of life and is passionate in her belief that we are all musicians. Using easy to play and unusual instruments her inclusive friendly and fun approach creates a safe space to play. DESCRIPTION:Spaces available for those who can attend weekly! Please contact events@duncanplace.org to join us. Spaces are filled on a first-come\, first-served basis.\n\nThis is a chair-modified yoga class which is suitable for all ages. This class gives chair-based variations on the classic poses – you will find your mountain and warrior poses here! \nWhilst the focus is about maintaining strength and flexibility it’s still a very relaxing class. This hour long chair yoga class will include yoga poses\, gentle yoga flows and stretching sequences\, pranayama (breathing practices)\, some meditation and of course relaxation. \n**Please arrive five minutes beforehand so classes can start on time.** \n\n\n\n\n \nClasses led by Yoga Teacher Yonnie Fraser\n\n\n\nYonnie has worked with children and young people in creative projects all over Scotland for the last 25 years. She would often begin the day by guiding staff and children through a short yoga practice and her commitment to furthering her yoga training and teaching stemmed from this time. Yonnie completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training in a small yoga studio in Jaipur and has since gone on to train in yoga mudra\, family yoga\, yoga and autism and chair yoga. Her yoga teaching is rooted in inclusivity and (being older herself) she loves working with seniors as well as all the other ages! Laughter for Jo became a daily tool to manage mood\, reduce pain\, build resilience and boost health and happiness which she then wanted to share with others. \nJo ran Edinburgh Laughter Club for 10 years totally voluntarily to become one of the most successful laughter clubs in the UK (the first club to run weekly sessions and the first to secure funding from the NHS). Together with her regular members\, they raised over £25K for local charities – doing good and feeling good! \n\n\n\n\n\n \nImportant Information\n\n\n\nPayments – Please Read\nPayments for these classes can be made here on Eventbrite\, however\, please be advised that Eventbrite add their own non-refundable fee to the ticket price which they collect. Alternatively\, you can email us at events@duncanplace.org and we can send you a payment link without an additional fee. After your first class\, payments can be made in person each week at Duncan Place via card or cash. \nChoosing Your Payment Amount – Please Read\n£6 = Our Standard Class Fee is for people who have a steady income (from any source) and are able to occasionally attend paid events or classes. \nAlternative options\n£4 = The Reduced Class Fee is an alternative option for people who have an unsteady or low income\, are not often able to attend paid events or classes\, and would really struggle to pay the standard class cost of £6. \n£8 = Class Fee + is an alternative option for people who have more disposable income and are able to regularly attend paid events or classes. This option also helps us sustain the reduced priced option. \nWith these three options\, it is also completely OK to pick different payment options at each class. You get to choose exactly what you pay according to what you can genuinely afford. We only ask that you do a little bit of self-reflection before choosing your price point. You may find yourself somewhere between price points and that is fine. You get to choose which price point fits most comfortably at any given time. \nParticipant Information\nPlease arrive five or ten minutes before the class starts – latecomers may not be admitted. \nPlease wear comfortable clothing allowing movement – light layers are best as we can warm up and cool down quickly between different stages of the class. \nPart of the session includes laughter meditation where you have the option of lying down (or you can be seated in a chair). If you have a favourite yoga mat or blanket you’d like to bring along\, please do\, however we also have a limited supply of them here that you can use on the day. \nThese Laughter For Health & Happiness classes are totally inclusive and welcome everyone of all fitness levels and mobility; wheelchair users are welcome (as are Carers and Support Workers for those who need physical assistance) and people who find it difficult to stand or cope with moving around can do the whole class seated. \nThese classes will include elements of Laughter Yoga which is an aerobic exercise that may not be suitable for people suffering from uncontrolled blood pressure\, heart disease\, epilepsy\, any kind of hernia\, severe back pain\, abdominal surgery within the last 3 months and major psychiatric conditions. If these conditions do not apply but during the class you experience pain\, discomfort or breathlessness then take a break – have a seat and take some time out to rest – and perhaps then continue with restraint or more gently. If you have any doubt about continuing then simply stop. DESCRIPTION:Our 8-week choir block runs from Tuesday 3rd February until Tuesday 31st March (no session on Tuesday 17th February). The block costs £40 which is to be paid in advance.\nSpaces are limited\, so please do email us on events@duncanplace.org and we can let you know if there’s space to join.\nWe’re aiming to start our next choir block on Tue 21st April. Please get in touch to express your interest if you’d be keen to join then. \n\nImportant information:\nWe’re having a couple of trial sessions for people who would be available to join this 8-week block on Tuesday 20th and Tuesday 27th January. These two sessions only\, will be £5 pay-as-you-go session. Again\, spaces are limited\, so please do get in touch. \nAs we take a rest over Christmas and New Year\, our events email won’t be monitored from Fri 19th December until Tuesday 6th January. If you’re getting in touch during this time\, we’ll get back to you once we return. Thanks. \n\nWhat to expect\nDuncan Place Community Choir (DPCC) started in October 2023. In early 2023 we reached out to community members to discover what they wanted from a community events programme. Top of the list was a community choir\, and after an initial planning meeting with interested community members in July 2023\, our choir first sang together a couple of months later. \n We welcome all singers over the age of 18 whether you’re a complete beginner or seasoned singer. There are no auditions\, and everything is learned by ear\, you do not need to read music. We sing acapella enjoying a range of material from folk\, pop\, gospel\, and traditional songs in other languages. Songs that celebrate community\, nature\, and humanity feature highly in the repertoire. \n Choir leader Seraph Davidson is a member of the Natural Voice Network who believe that ‘singing is everybody’s birthright.’ At DPCC we aim to be inclusive and accessible to all so if you have any particular needs\, please speak to us so that we can work out how the choir can work for you. \n Singing in a choir can be a wonderful boost to your health and wellbeing. It’s a proven way to reduce stress levels and it is an effective way to build community. If you are looking for a warm\, welcoming choir then this is the choir for you. \nTimes and dates\nWe meet on Tuesday evenings (check block dates) and sing from 7pm – 8.45pm\, with a short break around 8pm. Arrival is from 6.45pm. \nThe choir usually meets in blocks of between seven to ten weeks and ideally choir members should aim to have an attendance of 75% or more for the benefit of the choir.  We rarely issue homework or learning tracks which is an aspect that our singers really enjoy. This reduces additional demand on your time outside of the Tuesday night sessions.  \nFees\nOur choir generally runs in eight-week blocks\, costing £40\, which is to be paid in advance of the block starting.    \nPerformances\nTo date\, DPCC have performed in house for various events and at Leith Gala. We had a great time and the feedback was wonderful.
